ever since i upgraded my dinosaur os from xp to 7 i'm having a huge problem with my internet. Does anyone have any idea what might cause this problem?
Also playing with pmove fixed on 1 seems to prevent the lag a bit but once in a while i need to stop moving or my lag o meter goes ape shit...

Could be a problem with your firewall if you have a new one? What about programs that you have installed? uTorrent or something like that could open automatically when you start your computer.

Don't think its my firewall or a program in the background. I've disabled steam and utorrent from opening when starting my pc.

Another thing is i'm using wireless and my brother doesn't have any issue's so that removes the possibility of bad internet from our router.

I don't use wireless, I feel its abit more stable and secure with cables :p You could try to use a cable, and check your ET settings, /rate 25000 if i remember right.

Never had any problems with our wireless when i still used xp, however my brother is using 7 and isn't having problems so its got to do with my configuration. Just tried disabling firewall but didn't work.
And the lag isn't just on ET its on every game i play so changing my maxpackets or rate wont help :/.

pmove_fixed isn't silEnT mod command; tjmod or etjump only

is that lag every 3 or 5 sec for instance? not continuously or randomly appearing?

Actually pmove helps to prevent bullet spread.

And the lag spikes. It ain't constantly lagging. I can play fine for a couple of minutes then my ping jumps up to 800 easily and stay there for a couple of seconds and from time to time stays there for a couple of minutes.
Like i mentioned before the trouble started ever since i got windows 7.

Oh I checked and it actually exists on silEnT, didn't know that. Razz

Have you increased hunk, sound and zonemegs yet?

These variables should be high enough, it allows ET use more memory of your pc.

/com_hunkmegs 256
/com_soundmegs 125
/com_zonemegs 125

Yes and it didn't help, i'm guessing its related to my settings on my pc and not so much the game. I'm having lag spikes on other games as well.

Try compatibility mode, right click ET icon on desktop; properties; compatibility; mark (x) run in compatibility mode: windows xp (service pack 2) + run as admin.

My thought exactly, and i've already tried that option. I reinstalled it and updated the driver but no change. I'm starting to think its because of my outdated pc parts. Does anyone know if windows 7 requires more whatever to run smoothly? Could it be possible my pc is to old to run windows 7 hence gives me lag spikes?

Actually i got it the other way around, without pmove i lag almost all the time and with pmove i only got lagspikes.

ok normally it should work without problems... 2 gb ram could be more but thats not the reason... try to ping your router!
open cmd and type in:
ping [ipOfRouter]
u should get an averege of bout <1ms to 10ms if its more the problem is your wlan... then your pc and your router cant exchange your data fast enough...

the only thing i know after all tests is that it could be that win7 is having a problem with your wifi-card... or your wifi-card is broken...

Figured it out, basicly its windows 7 (or my computer for that matter) being a douche. Its most likely caused by an outdated driver for my pci adapter. However when i try to update it with the latest driver its saying the current one i'm using is already up to date and no update is available...

Current version:
7.3.1.73
30/07/2007!!!!!

Newest version(which i have downloaded):
8.0.0.162

Any idea's on forcing my pc to accept it without the use of a baseball bat?

Download the latest driver from the website of the company that made it.

Yeah thats what i did. Yet it didn't seem to be able to update. And after a live chat with one of the tech supporters from that company i'm getting depressed about the whole issue... It changed from becoming a technical problem (driver) to a software problem (pc being a dick)
